Raising Awareness: The Impact of Speaking Out on Eating Disorders.

I recently received a deeply moving message from a family who wished to remain anonymous but wanted to share the impact one of my talks had on their child:

My child came home from school in September and told me she had something to tell me. We sat down and before long we were all in tears as my child opened up about struggling with an eating disorder. It would never have come to light at this point if it was not for Tina McGuff’s talk in the school that day. My child said that everything Tina said hit home hard, and before the end of the talk, there was an acknowledgement that there was an issue that needed to be addressed. We immediately made an appointment at the GP and we are all supporting my child through this process. As a parent, I just can’t thank the school enough for inviting Tina to come to the school, but I especially wanted to thank Tina for taking the initiative to do this school work, as I have no idea where we would have been now without this early warning and insight giving us time to react. Please keep doing the work you are doing as it potentially has saved my child from becoming extremely unwell with this eating disorder. As a family, we can’t thank you enough for your determination to raise awareness.”

I want to extend my gratitude to this family for getting in touch with me and for allowing me to share this with others to show just how important this work is. Sending them all my support and letting them know I’m here if they ever need anything.

If you want me to come to your school, please get in touch.

Hugs,

Tina
